Smartcar is excited to announce a new partnership with Volvo Cars, enabling API access to all Volvo vehicles across the United States and Europe through Smartcar’s developer platform. This official OEM integration replaces our previous integration and provides enhanced coverage, charging control capabilities (coming soon), and access to richer data attributes.

Capabilities

With this integration, you can:
  • Monitor charging status — Get close to real-time visibility into charging state, energy flow, and vehicle range
  • Build smart charging solutions — Support use cases like dynamic load balancing, demand response, off-peak optimization, and charge cost tracking

Supported Data

The Volvo integration provides charging, battery, location, odometer, closure, and fuel data through Smartcar’s standardized signal schema.

Coverage

Supported Vehicles This integration supports all Volvo vehicles regardless of powertrain type, including Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) models. Charge commands are coming soon for PHEV Classic models (without built-in Google Automotive Systems). Support for BEV and additional PHEV models is expected in Q2 2026. Supported Markets
  • Europe: European Economic Area (EEA) countries plus United Kingdom and Switzerland
  • United States: Full US coverage
Vehicle owners grant consent through Volvo’s official portal as part of the Smartcar Connect flow. During this process, they:
  1. Log in with their Volvo ID
  2. Select the vehicle(s) to connect
  3. Review the requested permissions
  4. Accept Volvo’s terms for data sharing

Notes

  • *Location1: Location is not live tracked. The location signal provides the last known GPS position when the ignition was turned off. Location is only available for the European market at this time.
